The first thing about a leather sofa that sets it above and apart from other types of sofas is its inherent durability. Leather itself is just plain tough. Whether it's cow hide, alligator, shark, or some other exotic hide, the resulting leather is simply going to last for years and years. It takes a real beating and just gets more charming as a result. The natural texture and coloration of leather lends itself to longevity because it doesn't show normal use as a defect. Rather, any occasional sign of wear just adds to the charm. This is a generalized statement and, of course, there are exceptions. Some leather is very smooth and will show blemishes. A leather sofa isn't immune to wear and tear, but it does excel what other fabric options will do.
When you are deciding the color and the pattern, you can definitely try different types of material too. One of the most comfortable materials used for these chairs is cushioned cotton. Cushioned covers are soft and comfortable, with loops on the four corners, to be hung. Other types of fabric used in upholstery can also be used to make these chair covers. Leather, even though not very comfortable, is another piece of cloth used for the same purpose. There are different types of leather which can be used to match these chairs with specific interiors. Faux fur, poly cotton blend, polyester, durable cotton, etc., are some more options you can choose from.
Fortunately, reconditioning leather sofas can be done in a number of ways. For instance, if the furniture's problem is only the dull and dry look of its leather but it remains without cracks, you should be able to bring back its former glossiness by applying a quality leather conditioner which can be obtained in any home shopping store. Take note however that this is only good for leather surfaces still without cracks, including cracks due to aging.
